Looking to the Future

Given the success of the EnMed program, the School of Engineering Medicine (SEM) has been authorized by Texas A&M University to pursue independent accreditation with the LCME.  To initiate this process, the SEM submitted a notice of intent and application fee to the LCME in early April 2025 with a subsequent notification of Applicant Status from the LCME secretariat. As of July 2026, the LCME has advanced SEM to Candidate Status, an important milestone in the accreditation process that recognizes the program’s continued progress toward independent accreditation. Candidate Status does not represent accreditation. In accordance with LCME policy, candidate schools may not recruit applicants or accept applicants for enrollment. This policy does not affect the ongoing recruitment and admission of students to the EnMed program track under the accreditation of the Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine. Additional information regarding the accreditation process and timeline will be posted as it becomes available.
